Bear Baiting, Hounds and Trapping
Continues As a
November 2nd, 2004 Sportsman Defeated but... had to overcome an emotional television advertising campaign that was primarily funded by two national animal rights groups. PAC reports filed with the state of Maine, showed that 95% of the financial support behind Question 2, came from two national anti-hunting groups. Supporters of the referendum spent over $1 million dollars primarily in television advertising.They showed actual footage of a bear caught in a trap and the bear was properly dispatched by the trapper with a single gunshot at point blank range, in a humane manor. (Not unlike a needle full of poison when Anti hunting Groups like the "Humane Society" put unwanted domestic cats and dogs to sleep by the thousands every month! Yes...perfectly healthy cats and dogs are killed at the hands of the people that suposedly protect them!) This single gunshot appears harsh to the eyes of many anti-hunters and it is not something that "we humans" need to see over and over again. (Woman and children were subjected to this video footage over and over again with this advertising. People do not need to see this, Anymore than we need to see a human shooting another human in a war, over and over again, with legs being blown off and the person screaming and moaning until they die.) It was very graphic and should be left to the eyes of the trapper or harvester of these animals, the people that can handle this situation mentally. This type of video should have never been allowed to be viewed publicly for women and children to witness! They may have never wanted to see any animal being killed on TV. Why is it that we do not see, humans slaughtering cattle by the hundreds for your dinner table. In huge pens and lines? Because ... It is not something that all humans need to see or want to see, "graphic footage". The footage that was shown in an attempt to stop our Bear Harvesting Methods here in Maine, and the livelihoods of thousands of Mainers, was not called for! It was the LOWEST of political advertising I have ever seen. If John Kerry, while running for President, had created campaign Ads of soldiers loosing their lives and the cruelty of war in this graphic manner.... People would not have stood for this. In fact I would assume many "lawsuits" would be filed for displaying graphic violence to the public. Well.. Maybe that is why politicians do not stoop to this low, like Anti-Hunting activists will do, it probably is not legal advertising. Something I hope SAM's legal staff looks into very carefully. In Closing: People from Maine understand that ALL wild animals must be harvested and regulated through SOUND management practices. Our DIF&W's Staff of highly educated biologists have been providing Maine's Wildlife Species with the true respect that they deserve for management of each specie's, health, and diversity along side Human Versus Animal population growth needs. Groups like this need to stay within their own knowledge base which is spaying and neutering domestic Cats and Dogs and leave the managing of wildlife to the professional State Biologists that spend their lives studying harvest and population growth of "Wild Animals" here in Maine. The next time you donate your hard earned dollars to The Humane Society, make sure they are taking care of your domestic pets and not funding legislation to ban "proper and sound" game management practices, across the world. |

The Humane Society and Maine Friends of Animals they are laying the groundwork for a statewide referendum to change the way bears are hunted in Maine. They have formed a political action committee called Maine Citizens for Fair Bear Hunting and are seeking to ban the taking of bears over bait, with hounds, and by trapping. ALL hunters! Stop supporting any of these above organizations. With this said .. Please closely read below
their proposed laws and rules for Maine Bear Hunting and do whatever you
can to help make a stand on this issue. We hunters and trappers must
stand firm and not allow this to happen in our great State.
Anti's Need Help! Not Your Support ! Article by Steven EF Beckwith - Mainebearhunter.com Although there are many ways to attack this legislation and S.A.M. and other organizations have great legal avenues to pursue in fighting this battle, I have a few points that should be said about all that oppose bear hunting as we know it today here in Maine! SEFB If Anti's get their way with this legislation Maine will have a bear
population that exceeds their habitat limitations with little, if any way
to control the bear population in this State. Game Wardens are already
understaffed and can not possibly do the work of managing Maine's bear
population without bear baiting, hounding and trapping as the law is currently
written. Like so many areas in western US States where hunting has
been prohibited in this manner, Back bear will be in garbage cans in your
local towns, villages and city streets and becoming a nuisance as well
as the very high dangers to human life. (For example: The Elk population
explosion in National Parks where hunting is not allowed. They may now
have to rely on hunters and snipers to reduce the over population for public
safety and health reasons, not to mention the destruction of other natural
plants and animals habitat balance in that area!) Situations like these,
come to be... because.... "humans" or ANTI's with their save the world
attitude do not care about anything else but what their mission is... "to
not harm any living creatures hair and to protect all the kitties, puppies,
bunnies, farm animals, deer, bear, moose, and every thing that lives. But...
Most
of these people involved with these organizations do eat meat from
the grocery store and frequent the establishments that prepare meat and
consume animals everyday. But ...it's OK to them because that meat is in
a shrink wrapped package and it's not very cute and cuddly looking, like
a black bear!
I, like most hunters truly respect and love animals, just like
you anti people do! Although you can't begin to understand this fact.
We hunters understand what the circle of life is! We humans and you Anti's
are included as part of that circle of life. Just like the fox, that eats
the rabbit, that eats the clover story! Being at the "top" of that circle
of life, gives us "humans" the God Given Right to harvest subdominant
species for our consumption and to keep nature in proper balance and harmony
for all living creatures to coexist on this planet! This is such a simple
fact, and you Anti's need to remember this fact and move on with your life.
Enjoy the creatures in any way you desire, and let the rest of the people
abide by the laws that our State and it's great biologists mandate are
necessary harvesting measures from year to year!
