This year I have given baiting bears my first try!
With the help of my good friend Dennis Theriault and his side kick,
Trent! We set out in early August running baits.
On opening day Trent and Dennis took there stand and I took mine.
When the evening had ended... 12 year old Trent took a nice young male
bear!
I hunted 2 more evenings and did not get a chance at a bear.
The season is still not over! But, the 4 hour north trip will only
be made one or two more times this year before archery deer hunting begins
in Southern Maine.

August 31st .. Russell will get his first chance to sit a bear
bait, with me as his sidekick!
If we get lucky, Russell will get the opportunity for his first bear...
even before I get to take one at age 41!!!

Well ..... Russell and I had a bear hitting our bait, although
we believe he was visiting our site after legal shooting hours in the evenings!
No bear for Russ this year!

Dennis and I returned to Jackman on Tuesday of this week and found
the baits hit again... Again no bears tonight!
We removed our bait and treestands tonight and have called it quits
for 2002... Maybe next year!
Expanded Archery Season on Deer starts Sept 7th, this Saturday! On
to the next hunt of 2002 for us!
